Ms. Melania Gutierrez - Principal
Welcome to the SFA STEM Academy! It is an honor and privilege to be a part of this wonderful adventure. I am a hometown girl growing up in Freeport and Jones Creek. I attended Velasco Elementary and then Stephen F. Austin Elementary. My experience at SFA was wonderful and I want all of our students to experience the same love I have for our campus. After attending Freeport Intermediate and Brazosport High School, Aggieland was my next stop. I graduated from Texas A&M and started my teaching career in Katy ISD. While there, I taught 6th through 12th grade science including Life Science, General Science, Earth Science, Biology, Physical Science and Environmental Science. Freeport Intermediate was my next teaching stop. I taught 8th grade science and Integrated Physics and Chemistry. I graduated from U of H Victoria with a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision. I served as an Assistant Principal for Brazoswood High School, Brannen Elementary, Polk Elementary, and Barrow Elementary. I’ve been the Principal of Barrow Elementary in CBISD and SFA.
I have three children: Kaley who is a Senior at UTSA, Amber who is a Sophomore at Texas A&M, and Alexis who is in 6th grade at SFA. All three of my daughters attended SFA and two attended Freeport Intermediate and are 3rd generation graduates from Brazosport High School. Exporter blood runs through our veins.
STEM is a passion. My goal is to offer the STEM experience to all of our children. We must have students ready for the 21st Century job force that awaits them upon graduation from high school. By equipping students with creativity, communication skills, collaboration skills, and critical thinking skills, we are setting the stage for success in their future. I invite you to come and be a part of this awesome experience. Go Gators!!!!
Ms. Jeanne Harding - Assistant Principal
My father was in the military so I had the opportunity to live in various places before we settled in San Antonio, Texas. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University in December of 1993 and began looking for a position in the San Antonio and Austin school districts. Fortunately, Brazosport ISD contacted me about interviewing for a 6th grade math position at Freeport Intermediate School. I took the position and worked at FIS for 17 years as a math teacher and Assistant Principal. With a very brief stint at LJIS and Central Office, I am very happy to be the new Assistant Principal at SFA. What a way to celebrate my 21st year in BISD!
